All topsy-turvy and disheartening

The state of Nepali politics may be bad, but the academic sector is faring even worse as unions of teachers, students and employees from the school to the university level are competing among themselves in staging shutdowns across the country.
Academic calendars are being disrupted in the five universities, community schools, the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and even private schools. The universities, including the oldest Tribhuvan University, have been padlocked by the Democratic Professors’ Union—close to the Nepali Congress (NC) party—, the Maoist-affiliated National Professors’ Association and the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party sympathiser Madhesi Democratic Professors’ Union since August 9 objecting to the “unilateral appointment” of vice chancellors by the government.
However, people are sceptical that the government can get rid of this sectoral malaise soon and easily.

Child marriage.

Child marriage usually refers to two separate social phenomenons which are practiced in some societies. The first and more widespread practice is that of marrying a young child (generally defined as below the age of fifteen) to an adult. This is the main problem of developing country like Nepal. Child marriages may have many purposes. The aristocracy of some cultures tend to use child marriage among different factions or states as a method to secure political ties between them. For example, the son or daughter of the royal family of a weaker power would sometimes be arranged to marry into the royal family of a stronger neighbouring power, thus preventing being taken over. In the lower classes, if they were fortunate, families could use child marriages as means to gain financial ties with wealthier people, and to ensure their successions.
Thats why it should be stop by spreading the ray of education and awareness. Lets be together against child marriage.

Nepalese are of Hindu religion. Mostly the business community celebrates this festival to pray for prosperity in their business. This is just a small parts only. This shows that our country Nepal is rich in cultural heritage too.

Where Mahakavi Devkota was born.

Mahakavi Devkota is the pride of our country.
Bordered by the Dhobikhola river in the east, Ward numbers 1 and 31 in the west, Ward No 5 in the north and Ward No 32 in the south, Ward No 33 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is the birth place of Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota. This icon in the field of Nepali literature was born in 1909 at Thatunati, (now Dhobidhara) in the area. Spreading over 85.7 hectares, this ward is also known for the ancient Charkhal Adda (four-walled government building). This old land revenue office is located at Dillibazar in the ward. People from diverse caste-based communities live in the ward. Sacred temples like the Gyaneswar Mahadev, Anand Bhairav and Maitidevi are its notable religious and archaeological structures. The Panch Kumari festival, which is observed during the Tihar festivities, is celebrated with great fervour there. The Postal Services Department and the Sadar Khor located in the ward add to the ward’s image, while City Centre and Star Mall, the well known shopping complexes, also dot the ward landscape. Despite being a religiously and commercially important area, this ward is suffering from acute drinking water shortage, poor drainage system, unmanaged garbage and pot-holed roads. “While some houses get water every day, some others don’t get a single drop a day,” Ram Khadka, a local resident of Gyaneshwor, said. “It shows how careless the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Sansthan is,” he added. Gyanu Shrestha of Dhobidhara complained about the sorry state of the roads in the ward. She said the condition of only a few roads is good as they are black-topped. However, others are gravelled ones and the sorry state shows during the rainy season. Streets at Dhobidhara can be taken for example. The poor condition of the drainage system doubles the misery of the ward denizens. On the heaps of garbage, Satya Dev Pandit, the Ward Secretary said problems at the Sisdol Landfill Site and lack of adequate manpower are the main reasons for the poor waste management. Pandit said the KMC Central Office had appointed 40 sweepers in the ward a long time ago when the population was very less. At present, there are only 18 sweepers and the population has grown many folds. The ward office is not allowed to hire new sweepers. Despite these problems, residents cooperate with the ward office when it comes to matters related to the ward. According to Pandit, they actively participate in the different campaigns the ward office organises. Residents of the ward are also paying regular taxes. In the last fiscal year, the ward collected about Rs 10,000,000. According to Pandit, the KMC is a political sector and there should be political representation in the offices. Only then, development activities can be carried out smoothly, he said. He added that for this to happen, political stability in the country is a must. Pandit further said that if the KMC central office allows the ward office to use only 65 percent of the collected revenue, the ward could invest and conduct lots of development works.

Its main structure is said to be dilapidated and the temple officials have been struggling to maintain transparency in monetary offerings.
The first recommendation calls for providing fixed salary to the priests to strangle any debate regarding monetary offerings at birth. It has also proposed formation of a new autonomous steering body to govern all management issues of Pashupatinath. The third suggestion is the urgent need to keep records of the minute inventories of internal structure of the main temple which, according to experts, is already on the verge of collapse.
